It’s getting harder to stay quiet. When a leader rants about History without cause, it distracts from the real moral failures we still haven’t confronted. In America, a person can commit one of the most devastating crimes imaginable — harming a child — and after a few short years, the law stops even acknowledging it. That’s not justice. That’s not a strength.

So when someone cries loudly about their place in History or the race,” they think they’re running, I have to ask: where was that outrage when it mattered? Who benefits from the myths we protect? Who stays silent because the truth would cost them something?

If you’ve benefited from a falsehood, of course, you’ll defend it. If you helped maintain it, of course, you’ll shout when it’s threatened. But real leadership requires honesty — even confession — when the truth is uncomfortable.
