Prashanth Sangem's avatarYours Truly

Admirable people

The YouGov latest survey published today lists top most admirable persons in the world. Sachin who is considered ‘GOD’ of cricket is ahead of many greats in the world. Now, if few of you still think that Sachin is admirable just because he has many records, he scored more runs, then you are wrong. He has more fans, most admirable in India because of humility, modesty and not just because of Cricket.

“This book goes outside the box of the layman’s accepted dogma – and away from vested corporate interests. It proposes a new way of understanding the root cause of brain disease and offers a promising message of hope: Brain disease can be largely prevented through the choices you make in life. So if you haven’t figured it out by now, I’ll be crystal clear: This is not just another diet book or generic how-to guide to all things preventive health. This is a game-changer.”

“In fact, in  2013 study, researchers at the University of Connecticut demonstrated that people on a low-carb diet, eating whole eggs – even on a daily basis – improved insulin sensitivity and other cardiovascular risk parameters. In addition to their healthy cholesterol, whole eggs contain all of the essential amino acids we need to survive, vitamins and minerals, plus antioxidants known to protect our eyes –…

Scientology: Witnessing and Prohibiting

Mark C. Rathbun's avatarMoving On Up a Little Higher

The following is an excerpt from chapter one of A Course in Graduating From Scientology.

At its core scientology revolves around the auditing process.  The word auditing comes from the Latin root audire which means to listen, or to listen and compute.  The entire purpose of a scientology auditor is to provide an environment in which an individual may look at his or her life in such an honest fashion that that which is viewed no longer has a hold on that person.  Scientology postulates that ‘charge’ (mental energy) ‘erases’ through that process.  One could just as easily consider that one’s witnessed experience objectifies.  That is, one’s experience moves from the subjective (part of, and affecting oneself) to the objective.  In that construct, matters of the mind that tend to drive one on an automatic basis are no longer hidden and automatic.  Objectivized energy of the mind is no more…

Pacific Island Ranger's avatarPacific Island National Parks

The following is this week’s edition of “Volcano Watch” from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory:
Welcome to Hawaiʻi Island’s 5th annual Volcano Awareness Month! Throughout January 2014, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), in cooperation with Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, and Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense, will offer public talks across the island. For more information about each talk, go to HVO’s website (hvo.wr.usgs.gov).
Last January, in this column, we focused on what scientists have learned about volcanoes during some noteworthy eruptions. This year, we will explore the exact opposite—what scientists don’t know about how Hawaiian volcanoes work!Perhaps the most basic of these unanswered questions concerns the relation between the volcanoes at the surface and their source deep within the Earth.

Most scientists agree that Hawaiian volcanism results from a plume of hot rock that originates deep within the Earth and ascends through the crust…
